A lot of people visit Las Vegas to spend money on fine dining, world-class apparel, and, of course, a little gambling. So, what do you do if you want to enjoy the area and take in local culture without spending a lot of money? Here are a few free things to do when you have some time to kill—and they’re all less than a 15-minute drive from the Las Vegas Convention Center (LVCC).

The Wynn Las Vegas

If you want to stay close to the LVCC, stroll through the many shops at the Wynn Las Vegas. This hotel, golf course, and retail destination is located near the southwest corner of the convention center and across the street from the LVCC’s South Hall. Here, you can peruse high-end designer goods from world-famous labels. The many boutiques at the Wynn Plaza include handmade leather goods, Swiss-made watches, chic Parisian fashion, elite perfumes and candles, and so much more.

Although you’re of course welcome to purchase anything you fancy, you can meander through the plaza at your leisure without spending a dime.

The Arts Factory

Check out the vibrant local art scene at The Arts Factory, which is just over two miles from the Las Vegas Convention Center. With over 30 artists and galleries, this facility showcases what’s hot in the Las Vegas Arts District. If you need some sustenance, pop into their onsite 18BIN bar and restaurant for some appetizers and refreshing cocktails. Or, check out The Art Factory’s calendar for some free events while you’re in town.

Bellagio Conservatory & Botanical Garden

The Las Vegas Strip involves more than gambling at your choice of casinos. Go see some breathtaking displays of plants and flowers at the Bellagio Conservatory & Botanical Gardens. About a ten-minute drive from the Las Vegas Convention Center, this 14,000-square foot facility is absolutely stunning just about any day of the year.

Here are a few highlights you can enjoy:

  • Beautiful plant life
  • Innovative and artistic designs, which are updated seasonally
  • A hot-air balloon basket that you can have lunch in

Just be sure to check this location’s website before you go. They close for a few days each year to move old exhibits out and new ones in, and you don’t want to schedule your trip for a dark date.

Barrick Art Museum

Twelve short minutes from the LVCC, you can visit the Marjorie Barrick Museum of Art on the University of Nevada, Las Vegas campus. It’s the only art museum currently in Vegas, and it’s entirely free (though they do welcome entry donations). During your visit, you’ll get to enjoy the stunning permanent collection as well as the temporary exhibits, which are rotated throughout the year.

Hershey’s Chocolate World and M&M’s World

Who doesn’t love chocolate? You can celebrate your favorite treat less than three miles away from the Las Vegas Convention Center at Hershey’s Chocolate World. This two-story attraction lets you personalize your wrappers, play around with different flavor combinations, gawk at the 800-pound chocolate Statue of Liberty Replica, and discover your next true confection love at the Wall of Hershey’s Kisses.

If you’re not a Hershey person—or if you want to take a full Las Vegas chocolate tour—M&M’s World is just down the street. Snap some selfies with your favorite chocolate commercial characters, and if you’re in the mood to spend a few bucks, create some personalized M&M’s that you’ll plan to take home from your Las Vegas trade show (but let’s be honest: you’ll probably munch on them before you even get back to your hotel!).
